Among other interesting findings:
  • Travel policy is communicated in many ways. It's on the company intranet (67 percent), discussed in new employee orientations (64 percent) and included in employee handbooks (40 percent).

  • The majority of respondents (65 percent) say their travel policies typically are reviewed each year or tweaked as needed.

  • In most companies (83 percent), travel policy is mandated; in firms where it isn't, the great majority of travel managers - 88 percent - think it should be.

  • While 45 percent of respondents feel they have strong, effective travel policies, another 38 percent believe they could benefit from more detailed guidelines. What's more, 17 percent describe their policies as lax.

  • On a scale of 1 to 10, just 7 percent of respondents give their travel policies a perfect score.
