Northwest Airlines Modifies Unaccompanied Minor Policy (continued)

Effective for tickets issued on/after May 1, 2006, Northwest Airlines will accept unaccompanied minors between the ages of five (5) and seven (7) on non-stop or direct flights* only. This change is effective for domestic and international itineraries operated by Northwest Airlines and its Airlink partners Mesaba Airlines and Pinnacle Airlines. This change is not applicable on KLM operated flights.

The new UMNR policy allows Northwest to be consistent with other domestic carriers including our codeshare partners. The policy reduces exposure of young children to potential connection problems. It will also reduce the number of younger children transiting Northwest hub cities and international gateways during peak season.

It is important to note that Northwest's new, more restrictive policy will also apply to all five through seven year olds who are traveling with another child ages eight through seventeen (i.e. a 6-year old traveling with a 15-year old sibling). In this case, the minors will need to be booked on a non-stop or direct flight.

Northwest prohibits all UMNR travel on the last connecting domestic flight of the day, on routings that connect through Milwaukee or Indianapolis, and on overnight domestic flights (except Alaska and Hawaii). All UMNR travel restrictions also apply to connections to/from offline carriers.

*Note: Direct flight is defined as one stop at a hub with no change of aircraft
