Crunched at the pump (continued)

According to NBTA, the average domestic airfare rose $12 between March 2005 and March 2006. In response to higher costs, 38 percent of travel managers are asking travelers to consolidate trips, while 33.7 percent encourage or require less air travel. Other cost-cutting measures cited by survey respondents include tightening purchase requirements for business or first-class ticketing; opening discussions with preferred airlines; and emphasizing advance purchase of tickets. Travel managers also are raising the bar on pre-approval requirements for ground transit and encouraging the use of public transportation where available.
