Wright
Amendment Is Wrong
by Scott McCartney
Wall Street Journal
You may have never heard of the Wright Amendment, but if you've ever
flown to Dallas, you've probably paid for it.
The Wright Amendment is a federal law that puts heavy limits on
commercial flights out of Dallas Love Field: Airlines can fly large
planes from Love Field only to states that surround Texas. This
bizarre rule was established in 1979 to protect the big new
international airport built 10 miles west of Love Field, Dallas-Fort
Worth International Airport.
The discount carrier Southwest Airlines, preferring Dallas Love for
its closer location to the city, refused to move its operations to
DFW. So a regulatory fence was built around Dallas Love.
For years, the status quo was comfortable for everyone -- but now as
Delta Air Lines closes its DFW hub and low-cost airlines gain clout,
Southwest is challenging the law. It's a move that has significant
ramifications for air travel nationwide since Dallas is a key
destination. Click Here

If screeners go private,
let standards be public
So, how is security these days? More
time-consuming. Flyers can expect more stringent screening
procedures that the government enacted this year. The Transportation
Security Administration will require passengers to remove coats
before entering checkpoints and will examine shoes more carefully.
Ticket-holders should arrive two hours before takeoff.

PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT A & I TRAVEL’S GROUP DEPARTMENT
(Message to Carol SantaMaria at Accredo Health from Gigi Bader who
attended a recent meeting arranged by A & I Travel’s Francie
Carnell):
Carol,
Thank you so much for all the arrangements you did for Chicago.
There were absolutely no surprises, no glitches. The meeting room
was great, meals were very well planned, and the transportation
information was perfect. Thanks again!
(Reply message from Carol):
Thanks, Gigi. Dan and Denise also told me everything was
perfect. I'd like to take the credit, but most of the arrangements
were made by Francie and her group travel department at A&I. They've
done a great job. I would have never been able to pull all 8
meetings together on my own in such a short timeframe. Glad you
enjoyed it!

Travel Tips for the
Holidays from the Transportation security administration
PACKING
Pack your valuables, including jewelry, money, and laptops, and
fragile items in your carry-on baggage.
Fragile items and laptops could be damaged during transport,
particularly when stored in the cargo hold of an aircraft or during
handling.
-
Do not pack heavy
food items in your checked luggage. Foods such as fruitcake may
cause the airport screening machines to alarm, thus slowing down the
security process.
Do not overstuff your bags.
Overstuffed bags will be more difficult to close if the screeners have
to open your bag for a physical inspection.
