Passport Backlog
Source:
ASTA
The U.S. State Departments Passport Services unit is experiencing a
major backlog in processing applications. Rather than taking the usual
four to six weeks, routine applications or renewals are now taking 10
weeks. Even the more expensive expedited service takes about three to
four weeks. Additionally, because the service uses a centralized system,
travelers cannot get their documents faster by submitting applications
directly to a regional processing facility. At present, passports are
not required for Western Hemisphere travel by land or sea.
Historically, January to March is Passport Services peak period for
processing applications. Although the agency hired extra help, the
anticipated surge due to Phase I of the Western Hemisphere Travel
Initiative was far larger than expected. As of Jan. 23, 2007, every U.S.
citizen must have a valid passport to fly between the United States and
Mexico, Canada and other Western Hemisphere countries.
The National Passport Information Center (travel.state.gov)
lets applicants check on the status of their applications online. The
Web site also provides telephone numbers and e-mail addresses to contact
customer service representatives.

Exceptional Customer
Service

LeAnn Harris
Vicki,
I have been at Bryce for the past 4 1/2 years, and found that LeAnn has
been outstanding in assisting me in all areas of travel. My colleagues
at Bryce concur with me on this. She is very efficient, straightforward,
proactive especially in providing the most cost effective alternatives,
and most of all she responds to the customer quickly alleviating anxious
moments of waiting especially under stressful heavy travel schedules.
She is truly one of the "great women of Bryce":
straightforward and down to earth,
lovely, charming,
loves to cook and
speaks southern which is music to my ears.
Since I am no longer with Bryce, I will miss the opportunity of working
with LeAnn (unless I get permission from Bryce for LeAnn to help me with
my travels).
It has been a delight working with LeAnn.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dan De La Cruz

Going to China?
Source:
Northwest Airlines
If you have any travel plans for China between June and August this
year, or if you know of anyone who does, Northwest has a wonderful fare.
In business class, the fare is less than $3000 roundtrip. It is capacity
controlled, so availability will be a challenge; there is a minimum 8 -
day stay and a 60 day advance purchase requirement, but it is a great
fare.

Enhancements

Northwest Airlines
Northwest recently introduced enhancements to the World Business Class
menu on trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific flights. The enhancements are
aimed at providing frequent customers more variety to their in-flight
experience. They include:
A new appetizer selection that features popular dips and gourmet
crackers.
A new "dished up" style ravioli pasta entree with parmesan cheese.
A new pastry a la mode dessert option.
On trans-Atlantic flights, World Business Class customers also have the
option of a new a la carte salad topping service.

Guidelines for Using a
Cellphone Abroad
Source:
New York Times
As a T-Mobile subscriber, Ken Grunski,
a businessman in San Diego, knew that his cellphone would work during a
trip to Tanzania. What he did not expect was the bill: $800 for 10 days’
use.
“I didn’t think I was going to use my phone that much,” Mr. Grunski
said. “But two to three 10-minute calls a day, and it adds up.”
What a shame that Mr. Grunski did not heed his own company’s advice. If
he had, he would have saved himself a bundle.
