Marriott
announces plans for boutique/
fitness brand
Marriott
International plans to develop a fitness/lifestyle
hotel brand called Renaissance Club Sport, an
offshoot of Renaissance Hotels & Resorts. Marriott
officials said the hotel concept will combine
"boutique-style ambience of the Renaissance Hotels &
Resorts brand with a sleek, 75,000-square-foot,
upscale membership fitness club." The hotels will be
modeled after the Renaissance Club Sport Hotel in
Walnut Creek, Calif. That property has sold some
4,200 memberships to local individuals, couples and
families and has a waiting list for new memberships.
It also offers hotel guests superior fitness
facilities. Marriott plans to develop 150 to 250
room Renaissance Club Sport properties in 15
locations nationwide over the next five to seven
years. Marriott said each will feature "distinctive
decor, imaginative dining as well as world-class
sports and fitness amenities."

High Speed Access
could soon be the norm
Soon,
hotels that offer broadband Internet access won't be
such a novelty. According to In-Stat, a marketing
and research firm, there were 14,300
broadband-enabled hotels in 2004. By 2009, the
number will jump to 54,000. Broadband services have
penetrated limited-service properties in North
America at a much more rapid pace than expected, and
that region will continue to see growth over the
next few years, In-Stat reports.
